The Bush effect and Gaza update.

George Bush did a lot of thing's he is disliked for, primarily the war on Iraq. In an earlier post I mentioned people's view on America, and how if the President does something, then the whole of America is thought to support him. George Bush brought a negative view on America, and how long is it going to take to wear off? That depends on the actions that Obama makes as President.

The Gaza Death toll is over 750, rising even quicker than before. The hospital's are full, children are dying, and there is no sign of the fighting ending yet. Israel and Hamas rebuffed the U.N call for a cease-fire. The Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert claimed that the Israel military would “continue acting to protect Israeli citizens and will carry out the missions it was given,”.

But they seem to be more on the offensive than he claims. Fighting fire with fire? So far, the situation seems to be worse for everyone since the ground-offensive was launched.

Update: About 3,300 people injured, around 768 people dead. At least 10 Gaza mosques have been destroyed in the fighting so the people are being forced to pray in the rubble.
The post I made just yesterday on Obama putting pressure on congress to spend $800 billion dollars? Cross your fingers and hope that something happens, because the jobless rate has hit an 16-year high at 7.2%! Now $800 billion will or will not be spent and the economy will strengthen or weaken. All we can do is predict and wait.

Good post. Thanks for the info. I needed the update. And yeah, they're fighting fire with fire. You're right.

It seems that Hamas' rebuff is meant to send us the following message: It's 'play to win' in Gaza. The Palestinians have seen Israel yield mile after mile after mile. They have seen it lose a war in Lebanon, and they are all too aware of the demographics (higher Palestinian birth rates). They also know that much of the world is against Israel. The Vatican is also angry at Israel. I'm sure the Muslim world is pleased with that. Why quit now?

Israel is probably the only country in the world that is criticised every time it defends itself. Hamas might also believe that Israel is getting tired of fighting.

It's play to win in Gaza. That's the worst thing of all. It's play to win...

On update -- I didn't realise it was that high. Wasn't it around 5.5% just 2 months ago? I'm now hearing that old American line -- "Good luck finding a job in this economy!"
